Me And Meditation (Part 1)

Thank you for being here. I hope you enjoy your reading. I look forward to your comments and note sharing.

Living with a chronic illness that has no cure, the hard work is never-ending. You have got to be working hard all the time. The hugely stressful events, the accumulation of little tense and stressful moments, altogether make life challenging. Often, it is simply impossible to cope.

With a health condition like mine, I must strictly follow my medical therapy, adhere to the medications and the restrictions, eat well, exercise regularly, and be good with my self-care. To be effective, I needed to build and follow healthy habits to limit enduring high-level stress and tension during challenging times.

I usually have no trouble remaining calm and composed under most circumstances. But, as my health deteriorated, my margins diminished. Striving to maintain a positive outlook on my life became requisite: this is where meditating come in. Meditation has been a crucial tool for me in navigating my day-to-day life with my illness.

My moments of reflection and the specific mental or spiritual challenge inform my meditation. I am trying to solve it at that

moment. I find the practice to be the best way for me to connect with my inner-self, be in the moment, and be with my God. Every day since the pandemic, I try to put in a fair amount of exercise (at least 30 mins) and at least 10-15 minutes of meditation, often when I wake up, in the showers, in the care, or at bedtime. Before Marche, I meditated while driving to and back from work (about 60-90 minutes).

When one becomes ill or sick, it is first important to remember that it is not the world’s end. Living every day, one gets to the fullest should be a priority. It becomes important to maintain a mind and a calm and resilient spirit to weather the inescapable tough days and setbacks that will come along the way.

There are many ways to meditate. In my case, what I usually do merely is breathing exercises. I check-in with myself, with my senses – listening, smelling, hearing, and just being still, cleaning out my mind. I aim to get out of my head, and connect with my body, connect with my heart. I try to feel all the sensations in my body, to open myself up to receive the light.

It has been many years now that I have been regularly practicing meditation. The few minutes of meditation I practice almost daily not only have been helping my spiritual being, but they also contribute significantly to improving and maintaining my mental health and my physical fitness.
