Hi Friends: I have experienced such a significant health improvement since May – where most of this improvement occurred during the summer months. Shortly after the Heart Walk in the beginning of September, I decided to tackle a little more in my life by adding some work in various areas of interest in my life – from work, Yeelen, and other initiatives and self-care that has really added to the vibrance of my life thus far.
Medically, I am fairing quite well. Check-ups and various testing are reporting very well and are extremely encouraging. I am able to do my part of the labour by doing tasks such as chores, groceries, among other things. Lovely Wife even mentions that my mood has improved. I am blessed, happy, and grateful!

At the very beginning, finding the right mixture between balancing time and elevated energy levels is such a challenging feat. While I did not feel over-extended, I felt that I sacrificed my ability to network, practicing my writing skills, to even as simple as keeping in touch with friends and family. By the start of October, I had created the time necessary and have achieved a better balance to keep my life exciting and full without letting other things fall to the wayside – feeling stronger, more energetic, and in good spirits.
At its core, the two things that I have learned thus far are that:
- Mindfulness through a stable mental health and spirituality are at the foundations of my life, moreso highlighted as a heart patient.
- I belief strongly that labour – in its various forms – is an extremely sacred trait for every human being, not only to showcase their worth, but to provide a means to continue beautiful work for the betterment of our world. It also serves as great distraction as well, amidst all adversity, by sharing yourself with others – heart and hand.

In sum, my journey as a transplant candidate couldn’t be any more complex, arduous, and extraordinary. Everything that I have done and will be doing is a way to say, “Thank you” to my care team, my family, and my friends during this time of my life. But abreast of all of this are the virtues of hope and faith for our next generation – my son – those who are ill, and to those who are searching for answers. Thank you for supporting my family and I on this awesome journey.
We are grateful for you.
Thanks for your time in reading this and please have a safe and happy holidays!
I’d love to hear what you think–say hi to us on the blog.
