Heart of a Giant
A documentary that grew out of a chance encounter between Rosalia Omungo and myself, in a global development course at the Harvard Kennedy School.
In the video (starring my wife, Des and our family), she covers the HeartMate3 LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) pump system that is implanted in my chest.
In January 2017, I underwent open-heart surgery to implant a mechanical pump LVAD in my chest. While I wait for a donor organ for the transplant, my weakened heart needs help to function better. The device for that job is the LVAD. It helps me with my advanced heart failure by restoring blood flow, improving survival, functional status and quality of life.
I am very grateful to Rosalia and her team for this documentary video. I appreciate.
